Njegoš: Poet, Prince, Bishop

Djilas’s life of Petar II Petrović-Njegoš, the prince-bishop and poet who is Montenegro’s national writer, published in English by Harcourt, Brace & World in 1966. Written largely in prison. A communist turned dissident spending his sentence on the poet of his nation’s mountain Orthodoxy is not the book anyone expected from the author of The New Class, and it occupies three boxes and part of a fourth in the Hoover papers.

Rights
In copyright — do not store. Djilas died in 1995, so nothing of his is free before 2066 under life plus seventy, and a work published in the United States before 1978 runs for 95 years from publication besides. Held as a catalogue record with a citation. WHO HOLDS THE RIGHTS IS AN OPEN QUESTION. The finding aid’s terms of access say only "For copyright status, please contact the Hoover Institution Library & Archives," and Hoover’s own policy makes the researcher "responsible for compliance with copyright law," including "identifying the copyright owner." No public record found names an estate, an executor or an agent for Djilas.
