Tito: The Story From the Inside (Druženje s Titom)

Djilas on the man he served, broke with, and was imprisoned by. He had been Tito’s closest associate and the envoy sent to tell Stalin that Yugoslavia would go its own way; he wrote this the year Tito died. Published in English in 1980. The Hoover papers hold an annotated typescript in box 1 folder 2, and the original 1980 acquisition included a photocopy of the Druženje s Titom typescript, published under that title in Harrow, England, the same year.

Rights
In copyright — do not store. Djilas died in 1995, so nothing of his is free before 2066 under life plus seventy, and a work published in the United States before 1978 runs for 95 years from publication besides. Held as a catalogue record with a citation. WHO HOLDS THE RIGHTS IS AN OPEN QUESTION. The finding aid’s terms of access say only "For copyright status, please contact the Hoover Institution Library & Archives," and Hoover’s own policy makes the researcher "responsible for compliance with copyright law," including "identifying the copyright owner." No public record found names an estate, an executor or an agent for Djilas.
